About
munky.org|v3.0 is the culmination of years of change, and a few years of website neglect. The site was started in 1998 by myself, Tom Hamm, used mainly as a personal repository of files, personalized email addresses, and fitting for an adolescent, a fan club site for a TV show crush. None of that anymore.
munky.org, what you may call v1, was started up in 2001. It was the journal of C3Racer, a member of a now defunct car called named C-Three Racing (yes I was retched1z if you were ever there). The original days, all pages were typed and formatted by hand in notepad. Each month a new file was made and linked to the archive page. v1 died off with the coming of v2, then quickly v2.5 and v2.6. These additions saw the coming of automation using Greymatter. They also featured a more interesting web design, featuring iframes. Yes, some very technical stuff.
All of the archives that precede 2009 come from this site. A couple of the first ones are missing, resulting from greymatter writing over the 1st two posts for the last two. I also lost all good comments thanks to the continual spam that the site was subjected too, primarily after I stopped regular posts in 2004/2005 timeframe. I made several attempts at creating a v3 since then – I have 10-15 different test projects saved – but never could pull the trigger.
In 2008 I set up a new webserver for other projects, and played with the idea of reviving the domain of my original nickname-sake. I finally pulled the trigger and in January, 2009, munky.org|v3.0 come rolling in. And here its, still going after 11 years. Hopefully it may one day regain it’s viewership, and grow into more as I mature and grow. I’m not longing blogging about hooked up rides sitting on low pros with body kits, NOS, turbos. No longer talking about what chick is hot and which one is not. No more adolescent lusting after an actress on an afternoon Nick special. For the record it was Larisa Oleynik, so out of respect for this sites origins, I have a link to her main fan website on the right. From what I remember though, me and the owner didn’t get along if it is still the same guy.
a quick word about the writer
Writing is a joy but not a career aspiration of mine. I truely enjoy it though, which is part of why I decided to keep this site alive. When required to in college, I wrote splendid, well thought out papers ranging on many subject. The research report our team had to do for professional writing became the new gold standard for that course, much to the dismay of other students. I don’t write as much anymore, so I hope that by spending time writing here, it will allow my writing to improve, which in turn helps me to think clearer.
My profession is in Information Technology, but I am currently in a community college preparing to transfer for Aerospace Engineering. I don’t prefer to write too much about technology, because too many people do already, and compared to them I am but a student. My job requires me not to be a master of technology, but a master of logical thinking and communication. I am face to face with my customers on a daily basis, and have to find answers quickly on the spot. I can’t pull the “no estimated to for repair.”
I thoroughly enjoy business and finance. In fact, I’ve read more business books than my wife, who is an International Business major. I’m the more entrepenuaral one in the family, and I strongly believe that generalists can be better business men or women than business majors can be. I am also surrounded by business and finance every day. I live in Charlotte, NC, the 2nd largest banking center in the country and home to the nation’s largest bank by assets, Bank of America. BofA also happens to be the customer I serve. I probably shouldn’t mention that, but I generally don’t bad mouth the hand that feeds me, so I think I will be ok. BofA isn’t perfect, but I do love the culture of it. It is more grounded and moral than most people would imagine. They are much nicer than many of those NY investment bankers I have met.
I’m no given expert on the subject of finance and business, but I have my opinions. I also don’t trust most of the experts, because if they were that reliable we’d never be in a recession. I am still learning this game just as those experts go, yet I do it through younger eyes, more willing to see and to accept than the narrow track provided by years of experience. I am 25 almost 26, so I will continue to learn and grow, just as I hope this site will continue to learn and grow.
