UNC 89 MSU 72

5th NCAA title overall for the 'heels!

5th NCAA title overall for the 'heels!

GO TARHEELS! NATIONAL CHAMPS 2009! What a game, what a game, what a game. The came in strong, and even thow they slowed up some in the second half, they still finished strong. Hell, even the benchwarmers in the last minute put up 2 points!

If you missed the game, you can always visit NCAA.com and catch highlights or the whole game. But you should be ashamed if you did without having a damn good reason. It was a record setting gala: Most in attendance, biggest lead at halftime (21 pts), highest score at half-time (55 pts), most steals (Ty Lawson – 8 steals), Hansbrough hit the #4 tournament all time scoring spot.

What a game though. Most of that game, it didn’t even look like Michigan State deserved to even be on that court. They misstepped from the beginning and paid for it dearly. They had managed to bury themselves into a 24 point hole, and never got any closer than 13 afterwards. They just couldn’t do anything to stop Carolina, or to keep Lawson from sneaking the ball away. They gave up the ball 22 times. If Carolina hadn’t lost some steam in the second half, it may well have been 72 to 110 the way the game was going.

I will have to give some props to Raymar Morgan of MSU. Playing with a broken nose, he took a stiff shot to the nose from (Green’s?) forearm. Ouch! A couple of minutes later though he was back. Definitely worth a toughness award!

Well, I’m going to get off of here for now. Got some more celebration to handle!

Carolina loss heartbreaking

This season has not been the best for Carolina fans. Sure we were ranked high, but we didn’t play like ourselves. Disappointing. But losing at this stage, with the chance of Duke taking it all the way, reminds me of a few seasons back. 2005. March Madness. I was the lone Carolina fan in a sea of Duke blue (all my then-current coworkers rooted for the devils). Fun season, they got the first laugh in Duke beating Carolina. I got the second when Carolina basically snuffed out Duke. They dogged when me Carolina dropped out in the ACC tournie and Duke claimed the prize. I kept telling em though, I’d rather win the big one.

That year Carolina took the big one. That loss in the ACC tournament light a fire under their rear ends. After that they played Carolina ball. And when Illinois came in thinking they could match the Carolina game step-for-step, they found out why it’s called Carolina game, not Illinois game; that in your face, fast pace, run up a million points and overwhelm the other team by speed and precision. A glorious day for Coach Williams.

Will it happen again this year? That remains to be seen. The only remnant from that season is Roy Williams himself. Hansbrough was picked up the next season, and quickly showed the world his game. Nothing like watching a freshman serve a senior his ass on national television.

Either way, win or loss, the heart and passion of Carolina fans are the strongest of any College Basketball team. And our passion against Duke is unmatched anywhere. Duke may take the Terps home today, but the way FSU is playing they may make Duke cry at the championship (it would be only fitting for FSU to win by a blowout).

But if anyone thinks they’ve got an easy walk in the NCAA tournie with UNC in their bracket, they got another thing coming.

Steelers take home 6th ring

I’ll be damned. 6 Superbowl rings! Ben with 2 of his own! Damn.

I got to eat my crow though. I picked Arizona to take it in a close one. Of course we all agreed that no matter who won, it’d be close. And damn what a game, especially in the 4th quarter.

I still say that roughing the passer call on gansby was definitely suspect. And there was definitely more than a fair share of holding on that game-winning drive. But screw it, it was still a damn good game.

Mental note to Kurt Warner though: Next time you decide to throw an interception, don’t try to be like your former teammate Jake Delhomme and throw it to a defender IN the end zone. And ESPECIALLY make sure he can’t the damn thing back 100 YARDS for a touchdown. ESPECIALLY if the guy is a LINEBACKER for Pete’s sake! I have to give my props out to Harrison though. Awesome.

BTW, what did you think of the commercials? http://www.hulu.com and http://www.nbc.com can give you a few more views of them. I didn’t think there were as many good ones as usually, but I did particularly enjoy the Bud Light during the office meeting. Honestly, I want to go work for that company and be in lots of meetings! Though the Crystal Ball was great :-)

Did anybody check out the interview before the game with Barack Obama? I’m glad to see that our President has some personality. We never got that connection with W. and it was great to see it. Nice to remember that our President is human. And that he likes football :-)
